Sport-Trek Challenge PDF Print E-mail

Exclusively for rising 6th graders and above, this program is offered all 11 weeks of summer at the National Conference Center in Lansdowne, VA.

Sport-Trek Challenge merges the best of our sports and eco camps and provides a challenging camp experience for our teens and pre-teens.

Join us for traditional sports like basketball and beach volleyball, as well as team challenges, archery, geocaching and orienteering! This camp program balances indoor and outdoor activities and includes daily free swim to break up the summer heat.  Sport-Trek Challenge includes all gear including GPS and compass, a daily afternoon treat, camp T-shirt, and joining our sports camp for our weekly pro athlete appearance.

Archery
Concentration, focus, and excellent hand eye coordination can all be honed and developed while practicing target archery.  Precision is the key to this sport and there is always room to improve which encourages campers to continually build on their last shot and learn from their mistakes.

Geocaching
Geocaching is treasure hunting 21st century style!  Using handheld GPS devices and a few simple longitude and latitude coordinates, campers will learn the basics of hunting caches, search for camp treasures hidden throughout the campus at NCC, and even hide their own group caches.  With camp-provided GPS devices this is a great way to learn and explore this fun, adventurous activity that is growing in popularity with almost 500,000 caches hidden world-wide. Learn more about Geocaching at www.geocaching.com.

Orienteering
Orienteering combines the basics of navigation with the thrill of a pursuit. Using a topographical map and a compass, teams race to checkpoints established along a set course through the woods and around campus. Orienteering is a great way to combine fitness, teamwork, problem solving and the suspense of a hunt.  Campers will learn how to read maps and use tools like a compass to navigate through this exciting land navigation activity.

Pro Athlete Appearance
Each camp week includes a visit from a different professional athlete who talks about their sport, what sports they enjoyed as a child, and other interesting things about themselves. (Due to confirming schedules, we cannot announce who is coming until each camp session.) Click here to see who's visited camp.
